Yesterday Director Matt was on the road at 5am, travelling solo to Barnsley, booked by the Youth Justice Team at Barnsley Council to deliver Smash Life training on the power of language and the words we use with young people and the words we write about them in reports.
Andy who usually joins Matt was also booked to deliver training elsewhere that day so this one was a one man mission
When we design the training we deliver we are brutally honest about where it comes from. It is shaped by the training we used to sit through when we worked in a local authority. We were often bored. We switched off. A lot of it felt the same, very corporate, very polished and miles away from the real world that social care and education professionals actually work in.
So Smash Life training is different.
It is real.
It is interactive.
It is fun.
And it is a space where no one can hide behind a laptop

And Barnsley… wow. Matt doesn’t not think he has ever been offered so many cups of tea Thank you for the warmth humour and down to earth approach. You reminded Matt of something really important. Young people and families do not remember us because of our qualifications. They remember us because we know how to connect. You proved that in the room.
